Arizona Cardinals's History

The Arizona Cardinals are a professional football team, that represent the state of Arizona and compete in the National Football League (NFL). The team is based in Glendale, Arizona and plays their home games at State Farm Stadium.

The Cardinals were founded in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club in Chicago, Illinois. In 1920, they became one of the inaugural members of the NFL. The team moved several times before settling in Arizona in 1988. In their early days, the Cardinals were not successful in the NFL, and it took until the 1940s for them to reach their first NFL Championship game.

The late 1940s proved to be a successful period in the Cardinals history as they reached the NFL championship game twice in 1947 and 1948. However, they lost both games and it would not be until 1963 before they would return to the playoffs.

Throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s, the Cardinals struggled to find success on the field. However, in 1988, the team relocated to Arizona and changed their name from the Phoenix Cardinals to the Arizona Cardinals.

Despite the name change, the Cardinals continued to struggle for success in the NFL throughout the 90s. It wasn’t until the early 2000s that the team started to undergo a revolution in their fortunes.

In 2008, the Cardinals reached the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history, following a stunning playoff run which included defeating the heavily favored Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. While they ultimately lost the Super Bowl to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cardinals had made their mark on the NFL.

Since that Super Bowl appearance, the Cardinals have reached the playoffs three more times, but have failed to make it back to the Super Bowl. However, the team has continued to be a competitive force in the league, with quarterback Kyler Murray leading the team to a playoff appearance in the 2020 season.

More About Arizona Cardinals

One of the most memorable seasons for the Cardinals was in 2015 when they made the playoffs with a 13-3 record. This was the best regular season record in franchise history. Quarterback Carson Palmer had an amazing season, throwing for over 4,600 yards and 35 touchdowns. Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald was also a standout player, catching 109 passes for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns. The team was on fire and fans were eager to see them make a deep run in the playoffs.

In the divisional playoffs, the Cardinals faced off against the Green Bay Packers in a game that would go down in NFL history as one of the best playoff games ever played. The game went into overtime after the Packers tied the game with a Hail Mary pass at the end of regulation. In overtime, the Cardinals won the game on a 75-yard touchdown pass from Carson Palmer to Larry Fitzgerald. It was an unforgettable moment for Cardinals fans and anyone watching the game.

The Cardinals went on to play in the NFC Championship game against the Carolina Panthers, but were unfortunately defeated 49-15. Despite the loss, the Cardinals had an incredible season and showed that they could compete with the best teams in the league.

The following season, the Cardinals struggled to replicate their success from the previous year. They finished the season with a record of 7-8-1 and missed the playoffs. However, fans still had exciting moments to look forward to, such as watching running back David Johnson rush for over 1,200 yards and 16 touchdowns.

In 2017, the Cardinals once again failed to make the playoffs with a record of 8-8. However, there were still bright spots throughout the season. Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald had another impressive year, catching 109 passes for 1,156 yards and six touchdowns. Fans also had the opportunity to watch rookie running back Christian Kirk make his NFL debut, showing potential to become a standout player in the future.
