This King of Country has been praised as one of the most influential artists of all time and has the hit songs, record sales, and global fan base to prove it. Find out why millions of people can’t get enough of the one and only George Strait.
George Strait launched his legendary career in the early 1980s with the release of his debut album Strait Country, which saw breakthrough success thanks to singles “Unwound,” “Down and Out” and “If You’re Thinking You Want a Stranger (There’s One Coming Home).” His sound was both traditional yet refreshing, and brought the country genre back to its original roots despite a recent transition into pop. Strait dominated radio waves for the remainder of the decade and continued to flex his muscles in the music industry for the next 30 years.
While he officially retired from touring in 2014, Strait continues to perform select shows and record music as a continuation of his legacy within the music industry.
His unmatched career consists of countless outstanding accolades. Among them are multiple Academy of Country Music Awards, Country Music Association Awards and induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He was named the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year in 1989, 1990 and 2013, making him the first artist to earn the coveted honor in three different decades.
George Strait’s impressive catalog of hits includes over 60 No. 1 songs (a record for artists of any genre). Among them are “Foor Hearted Memory,” “Let’s Fall to Pieces Together,” “Right or Wrong,” “Ocean Front Property,” “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” “Easy Come, Easy Go,” “Check Yes or No,” “I Just Want to Dance with You,” and “River of Love.”
George Strait has set several concert attendance records over the years but his most impressive is from a 2014 concert at AT&T Stadium. Nearly 105,000 people filled the stadium, making it the largest indoor concert in North America.
