Seattle Storm's History

The Seattle Storm is a professional women's basketball team based in Seattle, Washington. They are members of the Western Conference in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and have been playing since the league's inception in 1999. The team is owned by Force 10 Hoops LLC, a group of women led by Ginny Gilder and Lisa Brummel. The team has had a successful history and has won three WNBA championships.

The Seattle Storm was the first professional basketball team in Seattle since the Seattle SuperSonics left for Oklahoma City in 2008. The team played its first game in June 2000 and was quickly embraced by the city. The Storm had a successful first season, making it to the playoffs but losing in the first round. The following year, in 2001, the team made it to the WNBA finals, but again lost.

In 2004, the Storm won their first WNBA championship, led by sharpshooter Betty Lennox and superstar Lauren Jackson. They won again in 2010 and 2018, both times led by league MVP Breanna Stewart. The Storm's three championships are tied for the third-most in WNBA history.

The Storm has had many notable players throughout its history, including Sue Bird, the team's current point guard who has played every season with the team since being drafted in 2002. Bird is a ten-time WNBA All-Star, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, and has won two WNBA championships with the Storm. Other notable players include Swin Cash, Adia Barnes, Ann Wauters, and Tanisha Wright.

The Seattle Storm plays their home games at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Washington. The arena can seat up to 8,000 fans and provides an intimate setting for fans to watch the game. The team also plays select games at the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion on the University of Washington campus. The arena can seat up to 10,000 fans.

As with most professional sports, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the Seattle Storm's schedule and playing conditions. For the 2020 season, the WNBA played in a "bubble" in Bradenton, Florida, with strict COVID-19 protocols in place. The Storm adapted to the changes and had a successful season, making it to the WNBA finals but losing to the Las Vegas Aces.

For the 2021 season, the Seattle Storm will be allowing fans back into Angel of the Winds Arena to watch games. The team has implemented safety protocols to ensure the safety of fans, players, and staff.

Tickets for Seattle Storm games can be purchased through the team's website or through ticketing websites such as Ticketmaster. Prices for tickets vary depending on the location of the seat and the opponent. For example, tickets for a game against a rival team such as the Los Angeles Sparks or the Phoenix Mercury may be more expensive than a game against a lesser-known opponent.

The Seattle Storm has a passionate fan base that supports the team through thick and thin. The team's history of success and the exciting style of play has made them a beloved part of the Seattle sports scene. Fans who attend a Seattle Storm game can expect to see high-level basketball and experience the electric atmosphere of a live sports event.

More About Seattle Storm

In the most recent past, the Seattle Storm has continued to impress fans with their performances on the court. In the 2020 WNBA season, the Storm won the championship after beating the Las Vegas Aces in a clean sweep, winning all three games in the best-of-five series. This impressive victory marked the team's fourth championship title in their 20-year history, making them one of the most successful teams in the league.

One of the key players in the Seattle Storm's recent success is Breanna Stewart. The 26-year-old forward was named the WNBA Finals MVP in 2020 after averaging 28.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game in the championship series. Stewart's performance in the finals showcased her talent and skill on the court, and solidified her place as one of the best players in the league.

Another standout player on the Seattle Storm roster is Sue Bird. The 40-year-old point guard has been with the team since 2002 and has been a key contributor to their success over the years. Bird is a 11-time All-Star, five-time assist leader and has won four Olympic gold medals with the United States women's national basketball team. In the 2020 WNBA Finals, Bird proved that she still has plenty of skill and finesse on the court, leading the team with 16 assists in the championship series.

The Seattle Storm's success on the court has also translated into a strong fan base and high demand for tickets. The team plays their home games at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Washington, and typically draws large crowds of enthusiastic fans. The Storm's success in recent years has only increased interest in the team, and tickets for their games are often in high demand.

Attending a live Seattle Storm game is a thrilling experience for basketball fans. The team's fast-paced, high-energy playing style and talented roster make for an exciting game that is sure to keep spectators on the edge of their seats.
