Overview

Waitress is the latest in a string of successful movies to be adapted for the Broadway stage, based on the 2007 film of the same name. It tells the story of a young woman confined to a loveless marriage and dead-end job baking pies at a small diner whose world is flipped upside down when she discovers she is pregnant. With a delicate balance of comedy and drama, romance and heartache, Waitress is a treat for all audiences to enjoy, whether they’ve seen the original film or not. Waitress opened at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Broadway in 2016 where it earned warm reception, with many praising the score and mix of characters. It was nominated for several Tony Awards in 2016 and went on to win a Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award that year for its strong debut.
