Overview

Miss Saigon has captivated millions of audiences worldwide over the past 30 years. Based on the opera Madame Butterfly, it tells the story of a tumultuous romance between a U.S. soldier and orphaned Vietnamese teenager in the Saigon area of Vietnam during the 1970s. The musical premiered in 1991 at the Broadway Theatre in Manhattan, where it was immediately met with warm critical and commercial reception. In its first year of shows, Miss Saigon picked up multiple Tony Awards, Drama Desk Awards and Laurence Olivier Awards. It remained on Broadway for ten years and over four thousand performances, making it one of Broadway’s longest-running productions. The show’s immense popularity has helped spawn productions in cities worldwide, including London’s famed West End, and continues to be performed in regional theaters.
