2018 Super Bowl Halftime: 5 Reasons to be Excited for Justin Timberlake

The Super Bowl is undoubtedly the year’s biggest sporting event. It also serves as one of the year’s biggest concerts too as host of unforgettable performances from music superstars. This year’s highly buzzed-about Super Bowl Halftime Show puts Justin Timberlake in the spotlight. Here are five reasons we’re excited to watch it unfold.

The Dancing

Between his equally impressive singing and acting chops, many often forget just how talented Justin Timberlake is on his feet. He has drawn comparisons to Michael Jackson for his showmanship and ability to leave a crowd in awe. A Super Bowl halftime set without any of his dance moves would be unjustified, mind the pun.

The Music

Timberlake’s latest album Man of the Woods was released on Friday. The strategic timing makes the Super Bowl halftime show the perfect opportunity to show off his newest songs to an audience that may not have rushed for a first listen. Doing so would undoubtedly feel like an early preview of what his upcoming tour entails, but would also be a bit of a risk. We’re betting he relies on his wide collection of certified hits, including “Sexyback,” “Mirrors,” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling.

The Theatrics

Throughout the course of his impressive career, Justin Timberlake has never left an audience bored. From futuristic laser-light shows to getting support from backing band the Tennessee Kids, there are countless tricks this pop star has up his sleeve. No matter what tactic he utilizes for the gig, he’s sure to deliver a showstopping performance.

The Special Guests

2017 Super Bowl halftime performer Lady Gaga shied away from recent tradition and kept the spotlight to herself last year. However, JT could bring back the excitement of sharing the stage with special guests come halftime. If he does, there are plenty of names that come to mind. Longtime *NSYNC fans are hoping Timberlake reunites with his former bandmates a la Beyoncé‘s resurrection of Destiny’s Child during her 2013 Super Bowl performance. On the other hand, he could follow in Katy Perry‘s footsteps and bring along a hip-hop icon for the gig. Perry had Missy Elliott in 2015, though Timberlake’s likely options include frequent collaborators Timbaland, Pharell Williams, or even JAY-Z. R&B queen Alicia Keys and country crooner Chris Stapleton are featured vocalists on Man of the Woods, so we’ll throw their names into the ring as well.

The Overall Spectacle

It’s no doubt that the Super Bowl halftime show is a performance reserved for only the biggest and best names in the business (like Beyoncé, Coldplay, Bruno Mars, and U2 to name a few). Every year appears to grow in grandeur, leaving us wondering how the 2018 show will stack up to previous years. We can only hope Timberlake’s latest shot at the performance redeems his infamous 2004 appearance with Janet Jackson.
