Paul Simon is pulling the plug on performing. The singer-songwriter announced he will embark on one final tour, aptly named Homeward Bound: The Farewell Tour, later this spring.
“I’ve often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I’d consider bringing my performing career to a natural end. Now I know,” he said in a statement, adding that the decision to give up touring comes with mixed feelings, relief being one of them. “I love making music, my voice is still strong, and my band is a tight, extraordinary group of gifted musicians. I think about music constantly. I am very grateful for a fulfilling career and, of course, most of all to the audiences who heard something in my music that touched their hearts.”
Simon will perform 20 shows across North America on the tour, which kicks off May 16 in Vancouver. He’ll headline arenas in Detroit, Houston, Seattle, and Boston among cities before wrapping up the leg in Nashville June 20. Canadian stops on the itinerary include Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
Shortly after, the Grammy winner will head overseas for a nine-date European tour that concludes with a special show in London featuring James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt.
Paul Simon now joins a string of other artists who have recently announced farewell tours, including Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
