2019 World Series Ticket Prices Favor Houston Fans

The Fall Classic is officially here! Baseball fans are promised plenty of thrills when the series kicks off October 22, as they’ll either be witness to the Houston Astros winning their second World Series in three years or the Washington Nationals capturing their first-ever championship. But when it comes to saving money, only one team places first. 2019 World Series ticket prices are significantly lower for Houston-based games, whereas DC locals are paying a higher price to see the Nationals in their first World Series appearance.

According to Ticket Club sales data, World Series tickets in Washington are going for at least $300 more than in Houston. Prior to the series’ start, Game 1 tickets in Houston were being acquired at an average price of roughly $828 per ticket. Game 2, also in Houston, sees tickets selling for $857 on average. But once the series heads to the nation’s capital, those figures jump to $1,100 and up. As for the base, minimum cost to get into the first four games of the series, those are also in Houston’s favor. See the full pricing breakdown below.

The drastic price difference comes as little surprise. Houston was projected to be the more affordable market given their playoff success in recent years. Having won the World Series just two years ago, they are perhaps viewed as less of a novelty team. Now in the postseason for the third consecutive year, demand for Astros tickets has stabilized. They also took down the Yankees, who had some of the highest ticket prices both in the regular and postseason. Had the Bronx Bombers captured the pennant over the Astros, 2019 World Series ticket prices would likely be much higher.

The Nationals’ World Series appearance has drove up ticket prices simply for the fact that they had never reached the Fall Classic before. Historically, teams in their first championship appearance – or first appearance in decades – recorded some of the highest ticket prices. The 2016 World Series, which pitted the Cubs against the Indians, produced record-breaking ticket prices. Both teams famously combined for a championship drought of over 170 years, and their seven-game stunner drummed up ticket prices of nearly $1,900 on average. The next-highest series price came the following year when the Astros, in their first appearance, ousted the Dodgers, who were nearly 30 years removed from their last appearance. Tickets across that series sold for an average of $1,068.
