Cheaper World Series Tickets Likely for Cardinals-Astros Match-Up

With only four teams left in the MLB Playoffs, many are looking ahead to the World Series. It may be too early to proclaim a likely winner, but one thing is clear: A certain match-up will draw cheaper World Series tickets. For baseball fans looking to see the Fall Classic but don’t want to break the bank, an Astros-Cardinals World Series is the best bet to save some bucks.

The Nationals have the early edge in the NLCS, but a Cardinals comeback will benefit fans hoping to save. St. Louis has been a steady fixture in the postseason for much of the 2010s. However, their frequent appearances have seemingly lowered excitement, and therefore, ticket prices. In every year that they have reached at least the NLCS, Cardinals playoff tickets largely remained under $200. By comparison, the Yankees and Astros have garnered average playoff prices over $200 in their last three appearances.

While the Washington Nationals pulled similar sales figures this year, they are likely to see their prices spike soon. The Nats are vying for their first World Series title, having never made an appearance in their 50-year history. This was previously seen in 2016 when the Cubs and Indians combined for an astonishing 176-year championship drought. Tickets for that seven-game stunner went for nearly $1,900 on average, more than $1,200 more than last year’s Series. As a result, the Nationals potential pennant win will send World Series tickets soaring.

Should the ALCS go to the New York Yankees, World Series tickets are expected to skyrocket. The Yankees have been projected to have the highest-priced tickets this postseason for several reasons. First, they are consistently one of the more expensive teams to see during the regular season, which ups their playoff tickets by default. They also have not reached the World Series since 2009, when they won a record-extending 27th championship. Heightened hype over their potential return to the Fall Classic after a decade-long absence drives up cost to see them take the field.

In addition to their high regular season ticket prices, the Yankees also have the most expensive 2019 playoff tickets of all teams. As of October 14, the Bronx Bombers saw their playoff tickets sell for roughly $225 on average. The Astros fell shortly below that at $204, while the Nationals and Cardinals sold playoff tickets for $160 and $150, respectively.
