Fleetwood Mac To Embark on Massive North American Tour

Fleetwood Mac isn’t done just yet. After an incredible 50 years in music, the group is back with a massive North American tour to celebrate their biggest hits and musical legacy.

The legendary rockers unveiled plans to headline over 50 North American cities on the trek. “An Evening with Fleetwood Mac” will kick off October 3 in Tulsa and bring the band to over two dozen cities before taking brief hiatus come December. The final stretch of the tour will resume in February and extend into April before concluding in Philadelphia. Notable markets on the itinerary include Denver, Phoenix, Chicago, Houston, Washington DC, Nashville and Tampa. In addition, Canadian stops are scheduled in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. So far, Los Angeles marks the lone city with multiple shows, though the possibility of adding more dates by popular demand is never off the table.

Their new tour will be without one familiar face: longtime guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. Fleetwood Mac confirmed Buckingham had departed the band earlier this year, though it was only recently revealed that disputes over the tour was the reason why. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stevie Nicks revealed Buckingham’s desired schedule for the tour conflicted with that of fellow members Christine McVie, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie.

“We were supposed to go into rehearsal in June and he wanted to put it off until November [2019]. That’s a long time. Why would we stop? We don’t want to stop playing music. We don’t have anything else to do. This is what we do,” Nicks said.

Buckingham had spent nearly 25 years with the group, in addition to a solo career and side project with Christine McVie just last year. Despite his departure, Fleetwood Mac are ready to prove that the show must go on. They recruited former lead guitarist of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Mike Campbell to join them on tour, as well as Crowded House frontman Neil Finn. The reconfigured lineup presents the opportunity for the band to perform songs outside their vast catalog on the tour and perhaps explore Campbell and Finn’s music.

While the band’s members are yet to confirm anything, rumors are swirling that this next tour may be their last. If true, Fleetwood Mac would be the latest in a long line of music titans to give up touring. Fellow veteran performers Elton John, Paul Simon, Ozzy Osbourne, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Kenny Rogers, have all announced that their next tours will be their last after some 40+ years on the circuit each.
