Dodgers, Phillies and Orioles Highlight Hot MLB Opening Day Tickets

As baseball season gets underway this week (not counting the overseas Dodgers contest already on the books), fans are ready to hit ballparks across the continent for that most special of springtime traditions – Opening Day! But. not all home opener experiences are created equal, especially when it comes to ticket prices. Some organizations have a ton of fan excitement heading into the 2024 campaign – and the prices for opening day tickets reflect that fact.

From the defending champion Texas Rangers to the free-spending Los Angeles Dodgers and even the up-and-coming Baltimore Orioles, the top tier has seen some high prices paid by fans looking to open the year watching their clubs in person. But on the other end of the spectrum are some real deals, including fans in Miami and Oakland with an opportunity to take in opening day for less than the price of a hot dog and a beer at most live events these days.

Here’s how things stack up, according to our marketplace data:

Fans Paying a Premium for Opening Day Tickets

It’s not a shock that many fans are willing to pay top dollar for opening day baseball. For some franchises, it’s a chance to celebrate the upcoming season even if the expectations are low – and in some instances is the best-attended game of the entire year for a club. Looking across the league, the average prices paid thus far for tickets to home openers ranges from as high as $425 to see the March 28 home debut of the Los Angeles Dodgers against the St. Louis Cardinals down to $32. That low mark is the average price paid thus far for Oakland Athletics home opener tickets – which is logical given the club’s intended move to Las Vegas really dampening any fan spirits in the Bay Area.

In between, there’s a significant range of prices being paid, with an overall average ticket price paid of $158.35, according to Ticket Club data. Nine home openers – including for 2023 playoff clubs Minnesota, Miami, and Tampa Bay – have an average price paid of under $100 per ticket at Ticket Club. The fat part of the bell curve has 14 home openers seeing an average price of $100-200, including the NL Champion Arizona Diamondbacks.

The rarified air of the highest prices being paid – where baseball fans can save the most at Ticket Club with our membership model that eliminates service fees – are for the six clubs seeing average prices between $2-300, including the defending World Series champion Texas Rangers ($284 average), and perennial big-spenders like the Houston Astros ($208), San Francisco Giants ($270) and New York Yankees ($271). At the top are the Dodgers, who made an enormous splash with the signing of superstar Shohei Ohtani after a second-round exit in last year’s playoffs.
