Games are fast approaching – taking place on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day with berths in semifinal contests at the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl and the eventual College Football Playoff National Championship in Atlanta on the line.
All four higher-seeded teams scored victories at home in the first round, setting up a chalk set of matchups for the coming contests. Ohio State will head to California to take on top seed Oregon in a classic Rose Bowl matchup between the longtime Big Ten power and the longtime Pack 12 power Ducks, now in the Big 10. Another Big Ten quarterfinalist, Penn State advanced to the Fiesta Bowl against third seed Boise State, while Notre Dame defeated in-state foe Indiana to earn a spot in the Sugar Bowl against second-seed Georgia.
