Country music titan Randy Travis will be taking his timeless collection of hits on the road this fall – but with a little help. Travis will appear alongside his backing band and The Voice talent James Dupre, who will perform the Country Hall of Famer’s biggest hits on The Music of Randy Travis Tour.
The outing will launch October 16 in Indianapolis and wrap in Green Bay November 2. A dozen dates make up the brief itinerary, including gigs in Atlanta, Minneapolis, Little Rock and Nashville.
This marks the first, proper tour for Travis in years. The 60-year-old’s music career has sidelined since he suffered a debilitating stroke in 2013. He has made several public appearances during his recovery, but remains largely unable to perform. His closest efforts came in 2016 when he sang a few lines of “Amazing Grace” during his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. A few months later, Travis was able to eek out the last notes of his smash “Forever and Ever Amen” during an all-star tribute to him at the CMA Awards.
While Travis won’t be behind the mic during the fall tour, he’s slated to appear onstage at each show. Louisiana native James Dupre will take over the vocals to celebrate Travis’ catalog. Dupre, who competed on The Voice in 2015, has called Travis his friend after appearing in the film The Price together, which was filmed prior to Travis’ health scare.
