Madonna Returns with Residency-Style Madame X Tour

The Queen of Pop is back! Ahead of the release of her fourteenth album Madame X, Madonna has announced her fall Madame X Tour.

Breaking from standard, Madonna will adopt a residency-style approach to the Madame X Tour. She will perform multiple nights per city from smaller, more intimate venues than the major arenas she has regularly sold out. She’ll launch the trek September 12 in New York with the first of seven gigs at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House. From there, she’ll perform several shows in Chicago and Los Angeles throughout the fall.

The global superstar will also bring the Madame X Tour to Las Vegas, Boston, Philadelphia and Miami throughout the fall, though exact dates for those shows are yet to be revealed. In addition, Madonna has European gigs slated for Lisbon, Paris and London in the early part of 2020.

Madonna’s decision to play small-scale venues is a far stretch from her 2015 Rebel Heart Tour, which brought an explosive show to massive arenas in over 70 cities worldwide. The residency format for her Madame X Tour could perhaps be attributed to the success fellow pop stars like Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Celine Dion have had with their Las Vegas residencies, as well as Bruce Springsteen’s record-breaking Broadway residency series. Known to be a creative visionary with mass influence, Madonna may be setting a new standard when it comes to touring and spark an influx of artists to follow suit.

The tour comes in support of Madonna’s latest studio album Madame X, due out June 14. The 15-track LP is said to be heavily inspired by the singer’s current home of Lisbon and will pay homage to Latin and Portuguese cultures, as evidenced by lead single “Medellin,” a collaboration with Maluma. Just last week, Madonna released the anthemic “I Rise,” and will subsequently release three additional tracks before Madame X arrives.
