Alabama Announce Massive 50th Anniversary Tour

Country music giants Alabama are celebrating a milestone 50 years in music, and to celebrate, they’re hitting the road on a massive anniversary tour.

The trek will kick off January 10 in Detroit and extend through June. Over two dozen shows are listed on the itinerary currently, though the band has confirmed that additional dates will be announced in the coming weeks. Arena gigs are scheduled in cities like Indianapolis, Baltimore, New Orleans, Minneapolis and Pittsburgh, among others. Along the way, Alabama will also play a number of festivals and one-off shows, like the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, Carolina Country Music Festival and Country USA.

Joining the legendary band on the road are a rotation of notable supporting acts, including the Charlie Daniels Band, Oak Ridge Boys, Chris Janson, Marshall Tucker Band and more.

While the tour will be a celebratory one, fans may not always see the core lineup perform each show. Guitarist Jeff Cook is touring on a reduced schedule due to his battle with Parkinson’s disease, which he announced last year.

Alabama – comprised of Cook, bassist Teddy Gentry, and frontman Randy Owen – formed in 1969 but didn’t strike gold in country music until 1980 with the release of their multi-Platinum album My Home’s in Alabama. Since then, they have released an additional 23 albums and achieved 34 No. 1 singles. They called it quits in 2004 after a farewell tour, but have performed sporadically since, each time drawing warm response from fans.
