Sting and Shaggy unite for co-headlining 44/876 Tour

Sting and Shaggy are teaming up for a co-headlining North American tour. The pair will embark on the 19-city 44/876 Tour this fall, Live Nation announced today.

The cross-country trek will launch September 15 in Miami and wrap one month later in Los Angeles. Other major markets on the agenda include Boston, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Chicago and Kansas City. A September 28 performance at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre marks the lone Canadian gig on the itinerary.

It comes in support of their new collaborative album 44/876. The reggae-flavored LP was a surprise development which came after the two artists joined forces to record what was intended to be a one-off single, “Don’t Make Me Wait.” Eleven additional songs transpired to culminate in the fiery, island-inspired album, which debuted in the Top 10 of the U.K. chart. The duo debuted the album’s lead single in an energetic performance at this year’s Grammy Awards. While the joint effort is full of brand new songs, fans can expect to hear a mix of Sting and Shaggy’s biggest hits as from their solo careers on the upcoming tour.

While they may seem like an unlikely pair, Sting and Shaggy share a mutual love of reggae music and its origins in the Caribbean, particularly Jamaica. Shaggy’s native country has been an incredible influence on his career as an artist, whereas Sting credits the lush island as the place where he wrote hit songs like “Every Breath You Take.” Jamaican influence came through in the album’s title as well. The “876” is a reference to the island’s telephone country code, whereas “44” represents the country code for Sting’s native U.K.

An exclusive remix version of the joint album will be released May 25, and is set to feature a carousel of acclaimed producers. That same day, Sting and Shaggy will perform in front of an energetic New York City crowd as part of Good Morning America‘s Summer Concert Series. In the weeks to follow, they will also appear at 103.5 KTUphoria bash in New York before heading overseas for a 32-date European leg of the 44/876 tour.
