Lauryn Hill to Embark on ‘Miseducation’ 20th Anniversary Tour

Ms. Lauryn Hill is celebrating 20 years in music with a massive headlining tour, set to kick off later this summer. The R&B songstress announced her Miseducation 20th Anniversary Tour Tuesday.

Nearly 30 cities across North America are included on the tour’s itinerary, beginning July 5 in Virginia Beach. The tour will stretch into October, invading markets like San Diego, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Phoenix and St. Louis along the way. Two Canadian gigs in Toronto and Burnaby are also on the agenda. In an official tour announcement from Hill’s Twitter (below), international shows are expected but to be announced at a later date, as are supporting acts.

Hill exploded onto the music scene in 1998 with her debut album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The LP topped charts in the U.S. and Canada, and went on to achieve multi-Platinum sales certification, bolstered by the success of smash single “Doo Wop (That Thing).” While it remains Hill’s lone studio album in her career, the singer has maintained a steady fan base in the twenty years since its release.

She has stayed relatively quiet over the years, with her last radio credit being as a featured artist on Method Man’s single “Say” in 2006. Prior to that, she has collaborated with other musical powerhouses like Mary J. Blige, John Legend and Wyclef Jean. Hill reemerged in 2015 to contribute to the soundtrack for the documentary What Happened, Miss Simone? She most recently teamed up with Nas for a brief tour last year, which traveled to Houston, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles among other cities.

Hill isn’t the only artist to celebrate an album anniversary with a tour this year. The Goo Goo Dolls are also hitting the road this summer to commemorate two decades since the release of their fan-favorite album Dizzy Up The Girl. Canadian crooner Rufus Wainwright will follow suit to mark 20 years since his self-titled debut LP dropped, reminding everyone how stellar a year 1998 was for music. Counting Crows have a milestone tour in the works as well as they celebrate 25 years since their debut album hit shelves.
